Science
simple machines
Our first unit has begun and we are learning all about simple machines. The image below shows you that six simple machines that we are studying.
Inclined Plane experiment
The students will be conducting an experiment this Thursday (September 18th). They will be designing an inclined plane. Their first objective is to design the inclined plane so that their toy car can travel the farthest distance. This is a competition! Students will be working in pairs. We will be measuring the distance traveled using a ruler and/or meter stick if necessary.
The students have been learning about friction. Their second objective is to create resistance, so that their car travels very slowly down the inclined plane. We will be recording the speed at which each car travels using a stop watch.
If your child would like to bring in some materials from home, they are invited to do so. There is quite a selection of materials already in the classroom.

Matter
We will start our second Science unit tomorrow (Thursday, November 20th). We will be studying the states of matter. E.G. solids, liquids, and gasses.
